The qlipha Gha’agsheblah is the mirror of the sephirah Chesed/Mildness being the extension of the divine will and forming a pair with Geburah and in the Qlipothic world Astaroth forms a pair with Asmodeus, being almost like the perfect sinister male/female union, except that in that realm is more of a S&M kind of a relationship where both switch. The ”name” Astaroth appears in many grimoires and occult books and many of them(especially those from the Middle Ages but not only) refer it as a male demon.

”Astaroth is a great and a strong duke, comming foorth in the shape of a fowle angell, sitting upon an infernall dragon, and carrieng on his right hand a viper: he answereth trulie to matters present, past, and to come, and also of all secrets. He talketh willinglie of the creator of spirits, and of their fall, and how they sinned and fell: he saith he fell not of his owne accord. He maketh a man woonderfull learned in the liberall sciences, he ruleth fourtie legions.”(Pseudomonarchia daemonum– Johann Wier)

”The Twenty-ninth Spirit is Astaroth. He is a Mighty, Strong Duke, and appeareth in the Form of an hurtful Angel riding on an Infernal Beast like a Dragon, and carrying in his right hand a Viper. Thou must in no wise let him approach too near unto thee, lest he do thee damage by his Noisome Breath. Wherefore the Magician must hold the Magical Ring near his face, and that will defend him. He giveth true answers of things Past, Present, and to Come, and can discover all Secrets. He will declare wittingly how the Spirits fell, if desired, and the reason of his own fall. He can make men wonderfully knowing in all Liberal Sciences. He ruleth 40 Legions of Spirits. ”(Goetia– S. L. MacGregor Mathers)

In Hebrew language, the difference between masculine plural and feminine plural stands in the suffix- ”ot”/”oth” for feminine and ”im”/”eem” for masculine. Therefore we will have
sefer/sfarim (book/books masc);uga/ugot (cake/cakes fem).As you can easily see the noun ”AstarOTH” is a feminine noun, plural form, meaning ”flocks”,”crowds” but also Ishtar( well at least for my Biblical Hebrew/Romanian dictionary). Many of the modern occultist agree that Astaroth derives from goddess Astarte and if we look back on her images/statues etc we can easily see that it is absolutely true.

Astarte was usually depicted as a female with huge beasts and sometimes huge genitalia standing or dancing on skulls and sometimes holding a naked baby in one arm. This image is corespondent to the Indian Kali, the destroyer of Illusions. Both Kali and Astarte were sexual goddesses, involved in the higher sexual rituals(both were the protectors of prostitutes) and they both had a consort, again it’s the stripping of the Adept via sex rituals. Just like her sister Astarte was stepping and destroying the Adept’s material remains revealing a pure form that could raise to the higher realms (or easier just like in the story of Inanna and her trip to Ereshkigal).
